The roundboats of Adavi

Its all about my place, Kerala aka The Gods Own Country. The place Adavi is in Pathanamthitta next to the much more famous Allapuzha.
This trip was all about a little get together of us friends bored out like hell during the Christmas holidays.
After having had our lunch from the sleepy hamlet of Konni. We decided to pay a quick visit to the elephant sanctuary at konni. Where we got to see a really cute teeny tiny baby elephant . After a couple of more elephants of various age we continued our trip to Adavi.

After driving nearly 15 kms from the konni elephant sanctuary we reached the place given in google maps as Adavi ecotourism spot, but alas nothing was in sight so I decided to drive a couple of kilometres more along the road. Slowly a beautiful little stream came in our sight to the left-hand side. And finally some parked cars came in sight but there was no signage at all of the boating centre but anyway that was the spot.
As all of us in the gang have been banned by our parents from even going near a waterbody, we decided not go on the boat and just check out place , go back! Going past the ticket counter and the canteen , all of which was made out bamboo, we saw a lot of roundboats known locally as the kottavanchi . These have been made out of palm leaves or coconut leaves and made water proof by black tar and looked a lot fragile. And walking down the pathway which was actually very clean compared to indian standards we reached the jetty or a mini jetty actually and saw a bunch of people wearing life jackets. That itself boasted our morale a lot because we were never expecting them to provide life jackets. But as we stepped down !
The view ahoy we were all taken aback! It was gorgeous, absolute untouched natural beauty . With stream flowing silently through its path and dense forest growing on both side it looked so beautiful. This new found wonder had a profound effect on everyone's decision and ended up making a 'U' turn and went on to buy the tickets for the boats.

Each boat costs ₹400 and can accommodate 4 adults and child excluding the driver. The boat ride is so smooth it feels like we are in tune with the rhythm of nature.

On the way there was a tree house known as eerumaadam in malayalam used for shooting of some malayalam movie.

All through the boating there was an something pleasant, something to do with the silence , the peace , everything green , and in b/w the little chats by our boat rower Wilson everything made it a journey to be remembered!
